How scoring actually works
Every question you answer adds a weighted point value toward churches whose data matches your answer. The weights aren't equal — a dealbreaker like "Must have kids ministry" is worth more (25 points) than a soft preference in the priorities list (10 points each). Your final match percentage for a church is: points earned ÷ points possible, based only on the questions you actually answered.
Two consequences of that worth knowing: skipping a question means it never counts for or against any church — it's excluded from both sides of the fraction, not treated as a mismatch. And a 99% match doesn't mean "certainty" — it means this church matched everything we were able to check against your specific answers, with the data we currently have. A newly added church marked "Estimated" confidence can still score high; the confidence badge and the match percentage are answering two different questions.
What we won't do
No church can pay for a higher match score.
Sponsored placements, if we ever offer them, will be visually distinct and clearly labeled — never blended into your ranked results.
We source belief information from the church itself wherever possible.
Fields like "Bible-Focused" or "Kids Ministry" come from a church's own website. When we can't verify something and are estimating instead, the church's profile page says so directly ("Estimated from limited sources").
We never guess at sensitive positions.
LGBTQ+ affirming status is the clearest example: unless a church has published an explicit statement on their own site, we mark it "Not publicly stated" — never inferred from denomination, never guessed. If you ask for an affirming church and we can't confirm any, we tell you that plainly instead of quietly filtering or making something up.
Churches can correct their information, not their score.
Claiming a profile lets a verified church leader fix service times, add photos, and update ministries. It does not let them or us hand-tune how they rank against your answers.
